WINTER QUARTERS - SALEM, OR - MARCH 1-3, 2013

Location: Oregon 4-H Center, Salem, Oregon  (map/directions)

Dates: March 1-3, 2013  (Friday starting at 2:00pm thru Sunday afternoon)

Summary: Winter Quarters will include workshops and classes for many facets of the
                   NCWC. We are lining up the classes and demos and will add them to the
                   schedule as we nail them down. If you have any ideas or a class that you
                   would like to teach, please contact Craig Flynn at 2ndUS@comcast.net or

                   or 503-637-5134 to schedule events and classes in the sewing area.)

Admission: $5 per person per day 4-H day-use fee for non-overnight campers.
                     $84 per person for two nights and all six meals special Package Deal.
                     See Cost section below or Registration Form for individual night stay and
                     per meal costs, as well as costs for NCWC members bringing horses.

Cav Camp
(The Union CAV intends to have some short classes Sat morning; Basic Drill, Horse Safety, Compass, and Basic Saber. They will also be doing their annual nwcwc safety test. Sat afternoon they hope to run scenarios using the skills covered in the morning. They will try to cover patrol tactics, recon and a compass orienteering competition.)

Everyone attending Winter Quarters, whether for the entire weekend, a day, one class or even just to “hang out” a bit with friends and family, is required to pay a fee for the use of the 4-H facilities. That is part of our agreement to use the facility. You must also be an active (paid) member of NCWC to go to attend. Advance registration forms for overnight stay and meals must be received by the Event Coordinator no later than February 23rd. Day use only participants who will be bringing their own food, (NO cooking - indoors or out - is allowed at the Center other than by meal staff), may register in advance or upon arrival.

PACKAGE OPTION 1 - $84.00 per person (any age) - Includes two nights in the cottages, cabins or RV camping PLUS six meals, (including Friday dinner).

PACKAGE OPTION 2 - $76.50 per person (any age) - Includes two nights in the cottages, cabins or RV camping PLUS five meals, (NO Friday dinner).

NON-PACKAGE LODGING - amounts per night, per person (any age)

DAY TRIP ONLY - amounts per day (or portion of), per person (any age)

NON-PACKAGE MEALS - all meals must be pre-registered by February 23rd

DIRECTIONS

From Portland via I-5:

  1. Take I-5 South to the Salem Parkway Exit. Exit right. Bear to the right and drive approximately 4.6 miles on the Parkway and Commercial Street. (The Parkway becomes Commercial Street just past the Fred Meyer store.
  2. Drive South on Commercial and turn right at the Marion Street Bridge.
  3. Cross the Willamette River on the Marion Street Bridge, staying in either of the two right lanes and follow the signs onto Wallace Road.
  4. Drive North approximately 2 miles and turn left onto Brush College Road.
  5. Drive approximately 5 miles on Brush College Road. Turn left onto 4-H Road.
  6. Drive uphill to the end of the pavement. Remember: The speed limit while in camp is 10 mph.
  7. If you are going to either Horse Camp or Greider, take the right-hand gate and drive downhill. Stay on the improved road. Horse Camp is the first group of buildings, including a barn, an arena and a bathhouse. If you are going to Greider, pass through Horse Camp and continue downhill. Greider Lodge will be on your right as you reach the meadow.
  8. If you are going to the Core area, take the left-hand gate and drive uphill. Signs will direct you to the area you are staying.


From Eugene via I-5:

  1. Drive 1-5 North to the Exit 253 Santiam Pass. Exit right and turn left onto Mission Street at the light.
  1. Drive West on Mission Street approximately 2 miles and turn right onto Liberty Street.
  2. Drive North on Liberty Street and turn left onto Marion Street.
  3. Follow directions 3-8 above, (from Portland via I-5).


From the West:

  1. Take Hwy 22 to the Rickreall intersection at Hwy 99, just east of Dallas.
  1. Turn north toward McMinnville and travel approximately 6 miles to the McCoy/Bethel Road junction. There will be an intersection with a flashing yellow light.
  2. Turn east on Bethel Road and travel approximately 5.2 miles to Spring Valley Road.
  3. Turn south on Spring Valley Road, go 1 block and turn right on Brush College Road.
  4. Follow Brush College Road around Zena (Spring Valley) Church and travel approximately .25 mile.
  5. Look for the signs for “YMCA Camp Greider” and “The 4-H Center”.
  6. The road will split – the left Y will be Brush College Road; the straight ahead (uphill) road is 4-H Road.
  7. Follow instructions 6-8 above, (from Portland via I-5).


VENUE INFO - The Oregon 4-H Center

GENERAL

Multiple indoor work and display areas in the cafeteria, chapel, and classrooms near the cabins, as well as fields for drill and skirmishing along with miles of trails for tactical exercises and horse riding. There is a separate horse camp area, with a tie-stall stable, a large round pen for working horses, primitive bunk houses, (unheated) much like they would have had during the civil war! Separate showers and toilets and some RV parking in horse camp.

There are several places where blank firing of all branches will be permitted, including some with gravel road access for artillery. (Please note that only blank firing is allowed at this facility, There will be No live Firing.)

The sewing area will be in the chapel again. Horse camp will be in the same area as last year Company commanders will be in charge of organizing skirmishes and picking the area after the skirmish.

No dogs allowed at the event.


SLEEPING  FACILITIES

Cottages: There are five cottages. Each cottage is heated and has four bedrooms, with each bedroom sleeping four (two bunk beds). Three of the cottages have two bathrooms; two of the cottages have just one bathroom.  Each cottage has a living room area with a couch, chair, microwave and small refrigerator for snacks.

Cabins: There are four cabins. Each cabin is heated and consists of one large room able to sleep twenty people (ten bunk beds). Restrooms and shower houses are within a quick walk of each cabin's location.

There is no cooking within either the cottages or cabins, nor outside. No gas or charcoal stoves allowed!
