WINTER QUARTERS

January 25 - 27 2008

Your hosts Sgt. Craig Flynn and Sgt. John Beard
Mess Sgt. Natalie Szramek
Our first NCWC event of the 2008 season.

Location: Camp Rilea is West of Highway 101 midway between Seaside and Astoria.

New charges for the event:
Because of the rising costs of this event there will be a charge for the firing range.

$10.00 for anyone on the firing range.  This will pay for the range fees.
$5.00 charge per person to help cover the rest of the Camp Rilea costs. (This will still leave us with a small debt for the event.)

Food: The Artillery Battalion will again provide breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. The cost will be $25.00 per person. Please get your reservation and money to Mess Sgt. Natalie Szramek no later than January 18th.  After the 18th of January there will be a $10.00 late fee.  There will be no refunds for skipped or missed meals. It's too hard to plan and prepare for the event if people change their minds after the food has been purchased.

You can also bring your own food or eat out. There will be refrigerator and freezer space available, but use of the kitchen is not possible.  KP help is always needed.

Activities: We have reserved the firing range for Live Fire for Pistols rifles and Cannons. Bring your own targets and mounting stakes. There will be a TV and VCR for Civil war videos. Please bring your musical instruments for evening entertainment. There are large open areas near the barracks for Company and Battalion drill.

Activity Schedules: Are the responsibilities of the Brigade and Battalion and they are working on a schedule.

Swap Meet:  No host Civil War swap meet in the cafeteria.  Each person will be responsible for their own items.  This way we can clean out our basements, garages and sell our junk or antiques to others that may need to fill up their garage or basement with our junk or antiques.  Start looking for all the things you no longer need or want and pass them along. You might let us know what you are going to bring by posting it in the NCWC forum page.

Ladies activities: We have reserved a ladies area, so bring your 20th century sewing machines and share with others how to make or repair your own clothes or receive help with a problem you have. Scheduling ladies events will be up to the ladies.  Ladies, please let me know if you're going to schedule any classes or events for the next bugle call.

Quarters: We have reserved a barracks with a classroom (ladies area), 160 beds. Each bay has 10 double bunks, mattress & lockers. Bring your own bedding, pillow and towels.  We will have a separate women's quarters and restroom.

There will be a $1.00 deposit for inspection, for each bed used. The deposit will be collected by the person in charge of each bay and returned when the bay passes inspection. The money can be paid back to everyone or to the last person cleaning the area, each bay will decide. We have had a problems in the past as people leave early and leave the duties to the last one left in camp.

Housekeeping: Each bay is responsible for cleaning to pass inspection (that includes bathrooms) The rule is everything has to be in the same condition as when we arrived. They provide plenty of mops brooms and cleaning supplies .We will post the inspection rules that must be completed before we are allowed to leave.

We always seem to have plenty of extra room. Last minute drop ins, if in doubt bring a cot.

RV: spaces with hook-ups are available with prior notice.

Family Quarters: Koski Hall about 1/2 mile from the barracks, it's like a motel with bedding, towels, TV. etc. Each pair of rooms is connected by and shares a bathroom.
