2009 Grand Floral Parade
Saturday, June 6, 2009
This year the NCWC has been invited to participate in Portland's Grand Floral Parade as part of Oregon's Sesquicentennial celebration. The entry will replace the previously-planned entries for the Starlight Parade and the Lebanon Strawberry Festival Parade. All members of Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery and Civilians are all encouraged to participate! This is a one-time entry and we want to make it a very impressive entry.
Participation Details
*****UPDATE!!!*****
We have just received updated information from the Grand Floral Parade Coordinators! Please note changes below.
BUS: Due to demand there is now a second bus departing from the Joe's parking lot!
MAX TRAINS: Participants in period uniform have special permission from the Max operators to bring our reproduction muskets onboard for the day. They have requested that we protect the trigger area somehow- i.e. tying it down or putting the musket in a cover.
Saturday, June 6th: The parade starts at 10:00 AM from the Portland Memorial Coliseum. Our entry is #43 so we will not step off right away (however we need participants to be on time!). The parade is 4.5 miles long and all participants must be at least 10 years old and able to go the distance. You will need to bring snacks and water to consume before and after the parade. Participants are NOT allowed to eat during the parade.
Form-up: We will be forming up the "Lower/South Lot" no later than 9:30 AM: SEE MAP. The easiest way to get there is to be dropped off at Larrabee and travel down Interstate Avenue until you reach the lot. For those who do not want to deal with the hassle of parade traffic, a bus will be provided for free by the NCWC. If you wish to ride the bus you must contact the Event Coordinator (Diane Nosbisch) to secure a seat (see contact info below). The bus can hold 45 people and will meet at the old Joe's Sporting Goods parking lot just off I-5. Take exit 290 at Lake Oswego- the Joe's parking lot is just to the east of the Fuddruckers restaurant. The bus times have not changed! It will arrive at the parking lot at 7:00 AM and leave at 7:30 AM. Another alternative would be to drop people off near the form up area, then park on the west side of Portland near Lincoln High School at the end of the parade route. Then take the Max Train back to the Coliseum. Max is free on parade day for participants but remember- no weapons are allowed.
