LEBANON EVENT DETAILS - MAY 18 & 19, School day on the 17th
The regular event is Saturday and Sunday, two battles per day at 11 and 3pm. Event will end, (and cars allowed back into camps) at 4pm on Sunday or as soon as battalions end their parade. No cars will be allowed in the camps from Saturday morning at 8am on, with the only exception being emergency vehicles. We will have a school day on Friday, May 17th from 9am to 2pm which will end with a skirmish. Two years ago we had over 1,000 kids come to the school day and are expecting at least that this year!
You can move in as soon as Thursday morning, (especially if you are helping on the School Day) BUT YOU MUST HAVE PERMISSION FROM YOUR BATTALION COMMANDER CONCERNING SET-UP LOCATION! Battalion space will be assigned to BC's and it is up to you to arrange your campsite within your area. I will not give permission to camp anywhere; it is up to your battalion commander or his designated representative. Anyone coming in to help on the school day can come in Thursday or early Friday morning to get set and ready for the kids. We will end by 2pm so you can then set up your camp Friday afternoon or evening. Anyone who is available to come by Friday at 1pm and can participate in the skirmish for the kids, please do so. Again, you could get there at noon Friday, park your vehicle, suit up, skirmish and then have the afternoon to set your camp. Also, if you want to stay over Sunday night you can bring your vehicle into camp and stay.
For those of you either doing a demonstration station or helping on the school day I NEED TO KNOW THAT so I can come up with some sort of rotation. I am happy to have more stations than less, but would prefer you didn't simply come, set up and expect to be part of it. I can also better pre-promote the stations if I know who and what they are. If I have not talked to you personally about doing a station please e-mail me and tell me what you want to do. My e-mail is scott@ingallsagency.com. If you aren't doing a station but can help, I could use some greeters to hand out coupons and tell the kids the rules about our stuff. This will only take about the first hour of the day at 9am.
The usual amenities will be available at this event. We will attempt to have a dance Saturday evening, (I am trying to get a hold of the band). Concessions and suttlers on site all weekend. Plenty of reenactor parking across Weirich road next to the fire hall which will be clearly signed. No one should park in the public parking area as I will have violators towed this year. We will have security in our parking area Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm to 6am. The field for reenactor parking is plenty big, but please don't block the obvious driveways in that field and keep everyone else from coming and going. How hard is that?
Battalion and Unit commanders are obligated to check everyone for an event card every day. It is a personal pet peeve of mine that we have people reenact without joining or paying to play. Also, all four battalions are required to have 2 people on 'fire watch' 24 hours a day. This is less critical during the day, but from about 10pm to 6am, we all have to have people on watch. If you are on fire watch near the sutlers, please walk through that area all night to help watch their stuff.
I need a limited amount of help as follows. I need 3 units to volunteer to empty our garbage cans into the big dumpster each afternoon, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are only 7 or 8 trash cans so it won't take long but needs to be done. Also, I need everyone to help police the grounds as the weekend progresses, especially after the school kid's leave. I have also arranged for porta-potty service on Friday afternoon to clean up after the little curtain climbers as well. If you see trash or wrappers, please pick it up and either burn it or toss it in the garbage for us. Speaking of garbage, we will have the big blue dumpster next to the pump house, all garbage goes in it at the end of the event. Please DO NOT bury any garbage including food. We need to get out of the habit of burying food and wrappers, even partially burnt wood at ANY event, it brings out the critters that dig up our fire pits, and then we get fined for it.
Unit placement will be the same as two years ago. Civilians are moving about 150' to the north so the Union can do so as well and get out of the swamp. Confederates are moving to the east closer to the baseball diamond to make room for the civilians on that end of the park. Artillery, Cav and Confederate HQ remain where you have been. If you are new to the event, please check with your unit commander or on-site event people. Also, there is now a large volleyball court west of where artillery and cav will be camped. DO NOT RIDE HORSES ON THE VOLLEYBALL COURTS PLEASE.
To get to Cheadle Lake park, drive through Lebanon on highway 20. 1 mile past Wal Mart turn left on Weirich Drive and go about a quarter mile. The park is on the left across from the fire hall. Reenactor parking is on the right by the fire hall and will be signed.
If you didn't make Lebanon before please give it a try. The camps are close, the battlefield is unique, and the public love us.
